Be the change you wish to see by volunteering with Leadership Education Uganda, a program that mentors a Ugandan generation of teachers who in turn build Ugandan statesmen through leadership education.

George Wythe University in partnership with HELP International, has created the LEU Program (Leadership Education Uganda). Volunteering with LEU is a great opportunity for a grassroots leadership field experience and to serve those in desperate need.

Not only do volunteers have an immediate effect on the people they teach ,but they are also an integral a part of establishing programs that will continue to impact the Ugandan people long after they leave.

This program is available year-round for students to participate in as part of their statesmanship education. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will truly move the cause of liberty across the globe by building statesmen who will, with the education we help them obtain, transform their country for future generations

LEU is a teaching internship. Volunteers spend the majority of their time conducting teacher development courses in the local schools. Since most Ugandan children spend the majority of their lives at boarding schools and are essentially raised by their teachers, Ugandan teachers are the tipping point of societal impact.

  • LEU volunteers will participate in the following service activities and excursions among others:
  • Teach teacher development classes in schools located in the Mukono District on leadership education.
  • Train local teachers to continue the teacher development classes after you leave.
  • Teach community classes on leadership skills
  • LEU-Youth, a youth program that teaches youth the essentials they will need to be the change they wish to see in the world.
  • Promotion of LEU through lectures and workshops to political as well as educational audiences.

Along with the above activities, volunteers also have an option to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro for an additional cost of $1,800 for the 6-day climb. (This is only available for volunteer groups of 2 or more). Volunteers may also schedule on their own tourist excursion like: Rafting the historical Rive Nile, visiting Lake Victoria (the source of the Nile), a 3 day Safari in any of Uganda’s wildlife preserves, visit the equator among many others.

The base cost for the 4-month time is $4,500. This amount includes:

  • Round-trip airfare
  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Visa
  • Food
  • Safety classes
  • Fundraising instructions

If volunteers wish to extend their time beyond 4 months the additional costs will be communicated to them through the application process. Unfortunately going for a shorter amount of time then that of 4 months is not an option. We’ve found 4 months to be the minimal amount of time needed to have impact.

Fundraising instruction is provided to help you raise part of or the entire cost. Payment plans can also be setup to fit your individual needs. Raising the needed funds is very achievable and we want to help you!
